Design & Me Atelier

This workshop explores how materials affect our relationship with everyday objects, both functionally and aesthetically. After analyzing and testing various types of seating, children are invited to transform a chair using a wide range of materials and different assembly methods. How does this transformative process affect our perceptions and posture? What impact does it have on our emotional experience?

The workshop is divided into several stages: a reflection on seating (20 minutes), design (30 minutes), staging and presentation (20 minutes), followed by a tour of the center in search of the exhibited seats. After a group discussion, children are invited to create their own chairs using materials available from the material library.

At the end of the session, there is a dedicated exhibition time to showcase their creations, followed by a discussion about interacting with the chairs and their impressions of the different outcomes. An example of such work is the "Party Chair," created by children during a workshop for ages 6-10.

A big thank you to the Centre Pompidou for their invitation, especially to Isabelle Frantz-Marty and Alice Maxia for their support.
